Pastel, Painting

I work with Soft Pastel, starting with an underpainting either in oil, acrylic, or watercolor depicting the natural environment as I experience and see it. I sometimes paint plein air, or work with a photograph that I have taken and then finish in my studio. I connect my love of the environment and nature through my artistic approach to landscapes, nature scenes and birds. Often my paintings provide the viewer a sense of place or insight to a location or thing that they may have experienced themselves. A sense of knowing or belonging to a place play an important role in my pieces and I hope that my artwork demonstrates my respect and passion for the natural world. Many of the images that you see have been inspired by birding, cycling, and hiking experiences around the Pacific Northwest and abroad.

Wood, Painting, Mixed Media

After retiring, I finally made space for a lifelong curiosity — abstract painting. Art retreats introduced me to the foundations of multimedia work, and something clicked. Growing up in New Orleans, I was steeped in color, texture, and a culture that now flows directly into my work.

My paintings and wood totem structures layer acrylic, collage, and mixed media into compositions that feel both intuitive and rooted — loose in form, but alive with the spirit of the South. I’ve filled my home with canvases and whimsical totems that bring me daily delight. Now I'd like to step beyond those walls and share these pieces with a wider community.
