Susana Santarone Sandmann (Studio #5)

My sculptures are storytellers. They build narratives from segments of my life, such as a thread from one of my dreams, an image from a memory or a nostalgic moment. The stories may come from any experience that emerges from my subconscious and wants to express itself. Each story begins to unfold with the clay forming a figure and continues on the fired piece, which serves as a canvas for illustrations. The finishing materials are diverse ranging from underglazes and over glazes, to oil paints, acrylics and encaustic. The entire process is often marked by subconscious choices and intuitive approaches.

Susana will be hosted by Caroline Sainis, along with Lilly Parker and Yelena Shabrova.
