Sandra Alderman (Studio #20)

As an Encaustic artist, I am propelled  in my work by the journey of discovery through the process rather than just the result. My intention is to draw you, the viewer, to your own personal thoughts and spark memories of your own. Using a variety of unusual materials and a depth of texture, I connect my innermost being to the feast of opportunity before me. The influence on my work comes not only from nature: sea, earth and sky, but from the emotion brought on by the various people that hold a footprint in my path. The Encaustic work I do, using molten beeswax, damar resin and pigment with a torch to apply, has a history dating back from ancient Egypt around 100 - 300 AD.  The process is fascinating, with the fluid and sculptural qualities of the wax, creating a unique avenue of expression .  As a new Beekeeper, my exploration continues in an intimate manner, engaging with the source of my materials.
