Artists- Make Your Tour a Success!

We all want this to be a huge success, and the more we support each other, the better it will be for everyone. Here is how you can help.

Promote, Promote, Promote

  • Post about us on your social media pages and tag us

  • Distribute postcards and posters

  • Share, like and make comments on our posts

  • Email your list

  • Share with your friends, family and colleagues

  • If you are planning to create your own postcards, now is the time to get it done!

Communicate with your Studio Mates

Good communication and coordination is key!

  • If you are hosting or being hosted, be sure to set up a time for all of you to get together and plan out your weekend.

  • If you are being hosted by someone, be a good guest! Communicate with your host and ask how you can contribute. Help with set up and clean up. Perhaps bring refreshments for your host and visitors.

  • If you are hosting other artists at your studio, be clear about your expectations and boundaries. Ask for help from your guest artists!

Prepare Your Space

  • Consider and create any additional signage people may need to find your workspace. You may also want to have signs to keep people out of your personal space!

  • Make your space relatively clean, uncluttered and SAFE for your visitors.

  • Label your art, or have a price list available for visitors.

  • Be sure they can pay you! Make it easy for people to buy your work. This may mean setting up Venmo, Paypal, Zelle, Square, or change for cash.

  • It may be a good idea to have an assistant. A friend or family member who can help you greet, direct, and process sales.

  • Providing refreshments for your visitors is not at all a requirement, but is a nice gesture. If you choose to serve alcohol, be aware of the extra considerations this would entail.

Plan Your Demo

This year we want to emphasize demonstrations and hands-on participation as an aspect of the tour. Some ideas are:

  • Actively create art and demonstrate your art making process.

  • Have an art piece that visitors can participate in creating, such as a painting in progress or a paper mural.

  • Have a simple art project people can make and take with them.

During the Tour:

Here are a few things you can do to help:

  • Encourage your visitors to participate in our passport program

  • Provide an email list so we can collect emails (for those visitors that are not participating in the passport program)

  • Count the number of attendees! Please try to delineate FRI/SAT/SUN

  • Have extra maps and passports available- you can print out more if you run out

  • Collect the passports from your visitors if you happen to be their last stop- especially on Sunday and during the last couple hours of the tour

After the Tour

September 28th, 9:00 am — the Dee Denton Gallery at the Lakewood Center

  • Pick up any unsold art

  • Drop off your lawn signs, passports, and any collected contact lists.

  • Remember: DO NOT keep or throw away your lawn signs! They will be reused next year.

Artists Survey

We are constantly trying to improve the tour for artists and patrons alike. There will be a survey sent out in early October, and you can help us a lot by taking the survey for us.
